IMI Accreditation Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

The Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair route is intended for technicians whose job role involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles.

There are three levels of job roles within IMI Accreditation Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair:

Service Maintenance Technician

Service Maintenance Technician should be working in the light vehicle sector of the industry and ideally have at least two years experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to service, maintain and repair vehicles.

Diagnostic Technician

Diagnostic Technician should be working in the light vehicle sector of the industry and ideally have at least three years experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to diagnose system faults, rectify the faults including replacing components and return the vehicle systems to manufacturer specification.

Master Technician

Master Technician should be working in the light vehicle sector of the industry and ideally have at least five years experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to diagnose system faults, rectify the faults including replacing components, liaise with customers at all levels and be able to transfer their technical knowledge to others such as apprentices & technicians.

Service Maintenance Technician

This level requires the technician to complete the following modules:

Mechanical Systems - AOM 057 AOM 057
Electrical Systems - Basic - AOM 058 AOM 058
Computer Based Test Equipment - AOM 059 AOM 059
Braking System - AOM 060 AOM 060
Vehicle Safety Inspection & Vehicle Service - AOM 061 AOM 061

This will normally be a one day assessment.

Diagnostic Technician

This level requires the technician to complete the following modules:

Service Maintenance Technician

This level requires the technician to complete the following modules:

Electrical Systems - Basic - AOM 058 AOM 058
Computer Based Test Equipment - AOM 059 AOM 059
Vehicle Safety Inspection & Vehicle Service - AOM 061 AOM 061

This may be achieved through a one day assessment or alternatively achieved over a period of time not more than three years before the expiry of the individuals IMI Accreditation card.

Diagnostic Technician

This level requires the technician to complete the following modules:

Electrical System Diagnosis - AOM 063 AOM 063
Computer Based Test Equipment Diagnosis - AOM 064 AOM 064
Vehicle Safety Systems - AOM 065 AOM 065

This may be achieved through a one day assessment or alternatively achieved over a period of time not more than three years before the expiry of the individuals IMI Accreditation card.

Master Technician

This level requires the technician to complete the following modules:

Electrical Systems - Complex - AOM 066 AOM 066
Electrical Systems (Diagnosis/Scan tool Diagnosis) - AOM 067 AOM 067
Computer Based Test Equipment - Complex - AOM 068 AOM 068

This may be achieved through a one day assessment or alternatively achieved over a period of time not more than three years before the expiry of the individuals IMI Accreditation card.
