Top Technician 2015 finalists announced

Highest scoring semi-finalists move forward.  Five technicians have made it through to the final of Top Technician 2015 after a demanding day of challenges at GTG in Wolverhampton.

The Semi-Finals saw 10 techs take on a variety of 20-minute tasks, ranging from simple vehicle maintenance checks to complex diagnostics. The team of judges consisted of Phil Bannister from GTG, former runner-up Lee Collins, James Dillon of Tech Topics, 2013 winner Steve Smith from Pico Technology and Chief Judge Ian Gillgrass from the IMI – who were pleased with the high level of skill shown by all who took part.

Event Organiser Nicola St Clair comments: “The semi-finalists proved a great amount of knowledge and skill in the tasks set out for them and the five who didn’t make it through to the final round can still be proud they came this far. We are looking forward to a challenging but enjoyable day at Fiat on the 24th April and buying the team a well-deserved beer afterwards.”

In alphabetical order, the five who will go to the finals are: -

  • James Etherington of VDS Performance, Horley, Surrey
  • Andrew Gravel of ADG Autotech, Scunthorpe
  • Peter Melville of Oscillotech Vehicle Services, Tonbridge, Kent
  • Anthony Pickering of CBF Service Centre, Beccles, Suffolk
  • Nigel Yardley of Yardley's Vehicle Repair & Test Centre, Sutton in Ashfield

Five become two

The five technicians will soon compete for the final two places on April 24th at Fiat Unetversity in Slough. They will face five workshop scenarios throughout the day, designed to test their system knowledge and diagnostic process.

The winner of Top Technician 2015 will be announced at Top Technician Live, also hosted by Fiat Unetversity, on Friday May 22nd – a day full of diagnostic and system training in the workshop from repair experts such as James Dillon and Frank Massey. The day will also provide business advice, debate and the chance to win a rally driving experience. Top Tech entrants receive a hefty discount on tickets, paying just £62 +VAT, the standard ticket price is £82 +VAT. Email nicola@toptechnician.co.uk to reserve a ticket.
